Military personnel drawn from all ranks of the Ghana Armed Forces have completed phase three (III) of operation HALT II in the Western and Central Regions destroying a total of forty-nine (49) excavators and two hundred and twenty-eight (228) “changfans” allegedly being used by illegal miners along the country’s river bodies.
In all a total of 427 military personnel drawn from all ranks were deployed in the two regions for the operation. After the operations, a total of forty-nine (49) excavators and two hundred and twenty-eight (228) changfans were destroyed.
The operation in the Central and Ashanti Regions covered Adaboa-Subin-Manso Nkwanta general areas; on and astride 100 meters along River Offin; Adaboa-Obeng- Anwiankwanta general areas; on and astride 100 meters along River Oda.
The military as part of operation HALT II, has turned its attention to the Eastern Region, where one hundred and thirty-four (134) men from all ranks have started an operation beginning 16th May 2021, that will take them to Akim-Oda, Kade, Kibi and Anyinam general areas along river Birim.
