The eviction of residents from Liberia Camp at Gomoa Buduburam in the Central Region will go ahead as planned.
The eviction exercise is a government decision that is intended to pave the way for the eventual demolition of the camp and the redevelopment of the area.
Some residents speaking with Angel news hinted that should they be evicted crime rate within the vicinity would soar, contrary to government’s plan to reduce crime in the area.
“The authorities should find feasible solutions to problems because evicting us will rather increase the rate of crimes”, an angry male resident told Angel TV’s Opanyin Darko.
The irate youth explained that their woes would be worsened by the eviction cum demolition exercise which has the potential to push them into a life of crime.
On July 27, 2021, Angelonline.com.gh reported that upon a request by the Gomoa Fetteh chiefs, President Akufo-Addo has given the Local Assembly the green light to pull down all buildings and ghettos within the Buduburam enclave believed to be a haven for criminals.
The move, according to the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa East, Solomon Darko Quarm, is targeted at ending criminal activities in Kasoa.
However, the decision to evict the residents has been met by a fierce rejection leading to angry residents clad in red and black clothing laying siege to the Buduburam police station on Tuesday, September 28, 2021.
“Accommodation here is cheaper, with GHS50 you can get a sleeping place. As a mother, where do I go to with the kids. I have to sleep outside and what happens to the kids”, a concerned mother lamented.
They are therefore calling on the authorities to extend the deadline for the demolition to enable them search for better options.
“We can’t argue with government but we are pleading for forgiveness of our sins. They should be merciful and assist us”, another woman begged.
