The Juaben Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) nominee who was alleged to have bribed assembly members to confirm him, has been granted bail by the Ghana Police Service (GPS).
Alex Sarfo Kantanka was picked up on November 1, 2021, after a video of him went viral in which he was seen demanding the refund of the money he had paid to the assembly members.
According to a statement issued on November 2, 2021, by the Police Service, signed by the Director, Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Obeng, Mr. Kantanka was granted bail after a caution statement was taken from him.
While warning the public that it will take legal action against anyone who is found breaking the laws of the country, the Police noted that investigations into the alleged bribery scandal would continue.
Prior to the event the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, had appealed to members of the Juaben Municipal Assembly to let go of the past and vote for the nominee since he has been reappointed by President Akufo-Addo to head the assembly.
However, Alex Sarfo Kantanka, could not secure the two-thirds majority after he garnered six out of the 26 votes cast.
This apparently caused the rage leading to his demand for the money and hurling of insults at some of the assembly members present at the confirmation ground.
