Former Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko midfielder, Charles Taylor, says the current crop of players in the Ghana Premier league do not possess the quality that will take their clubs to the promise land in Inter-club competitions.

According to the former Black Stars player, it will be hard for any Ghanaian side to burst unto the scene to make any positive impact in the next decade due to the player qualities at hand.

“No Ghanaian club can make any impact in Africa in the next 10 years. There is no quality to compete” he told Saddick Adams [Sports Obama] on Angel TV.

It is therefore no surprise to Taylor that the North Africans are currently dominating in Inter-club competitions because they are more refined than the Ghanaian side, according him.

“Some of our best players will sit on bench in North Africa clubs. Ghana lacks quality in all areas, technical, management and players” he said.

He made these remarks when he was reacting to Hearts of Oak’s defeat to Algerian side JS Saoura in the CAF Confederations Cup.

Charles Taylor therefore refuted the assertions by many that playing against clubs in the Northern part of Africa required some strategy, and attributed it rather to having quality players.

“There’s no trick in playing North African clubs. The trick is have quality. When we arrived in Tunisia to play Esperance in 2000, the fans said they’ll beat us 4-0”

“We were laughing in the bus because we trained to win by 2-0. We won 2-1 away. We were just too good” Charles Taylor recalled.

Accra Hearts Of Oak’s campaign at the CAF Confederation Cup ended in Algeria after a 4-0 defeat to JS Saoura on Sunday, a game that resulted in a 4-2 aggregated score.
