President Akufo-Addo has assured chiefs and people of Komenda that the Sugar Factory will commence production in April.
The president, who was addressing the Komenda Traditional Council said, the operations will start after ongoing civil works at the factory come to an end in March.
“The Indians are in and doing some work and so by April, production would have begun at the sugar factory.”
According to President Akufo-Addo, some 20,000-acre land has been leased at Wassa Fiase in the Western Region for the production of the raw materials for the factory.
A Ghanaian-Indian company, Park Agrotech Ghana Limited, is the new investor who will take over the operations of the factory.
The government in 2019 said the company was expected to inject $28 million into the factory between 2020 and 2023 with $11 million set aside for sugarcane cultivation, $6 million for the upgrade of plant and machinery.
Ex-President John Mahama commissioned the Komenda Sugar Factory in 2016 but has not been operational.
The factory which was built from an Indian EXIM Bank facility was expected to employ thousands especially, the youth within Komenda.
