The Western Naval Command of the Ghana Navy has received a new 20-unit accommodation for their officers as well as their families.
The project, known as Bedu-Addo Block, was initiated by the then Chief of the Naval Staff and now Chief of the Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama.
The accommodation block was put up to replace the dilapidated Block D in Sekondi.
The new edifice is aimed at providing decent and comfortable accommodation to personnel so as to improve their efficiency at work.
The new block has 20 rooms including bed room, living room, kitchen, and store rooms and was named after Naval Captain George Bedu-Addo
Commissioning the Bedu-Addo Block, Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, said accommodating personnel in the barracks fosters ‘Esprit de corps’ in the service, promotes discipline among troops and improves on the ability of the command to mobilise personnel for various activities.
Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu gave a brief history of Naval Captain George Bedu-Addo and admonished the occupants of Naval Captain George Bedu-Addo block to be diligent in keeping the building and its environment clean.
He added that preserving the Bedu-Addo Block in its current condition for a long time would be the greatest show of appreciation to those responsible for making the project possible.
The Messrs Supremo Limited was appreciated for completing the Bedu-Addo Block on time.
