The Ghana Police Service has arrested three persons for their alleged involvement in the chaos that marred the ongoing demonstration by pressure group, Arise Ghana.
It is however, unclear what might have sparked the tensions but videos show protestors pelting stones at the police.
Reports reaching angelonline.com.gh indicates that the police responded by firing tear gas at the demonstrating crowd.
The police also used their water cannons in addition to the tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Further reports said that the police were seeking to enforce the court order for the protestors to use the approved routes from Farisco through TUC to the Independence Square.
Movement of both humans and vehicles has been restricted as the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange road has been closed.
The police have so far condemned the actions of the protestors for inflicting wounds on their personnel and damaging their vans.
“What a shame, we were there to protect you and ensure your safety, but you throw stones at us, injure and hurt us. This behaviour is unacceptable and must be condemned”, the police tweeted on their official social media.
