The People’s National Congress (PNC) says it will, henceforth, boycott any event organised in the future by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The decision it stated, followed the unconcerned attitude of the leadership of the country’s largest opposition party, after it’s General Secretary, Janet Nabla, was assaulted at the NDC’s Congress over the weekend.

Madam Janet Nabla was physically assaulted at the 10th National Delegates Congress of the NDC held on December 17 and 18, 2022, when she attended the exercise to solidarise with the party.

She has since been receiving medical treatment at a health facility in the Greater Accra Region.

In a statement dated Sunday, December 18, 2022, the PNC described the situation as “shameful assault” and noted that the matter has been reported to the Ghana Police at the Ministry’s Police Station.

“The NDC Congress officials told the General Secretary that, they have appointed people from the PNC who have been supporting them in their demonstrations to solidarise with them.

“The PNC is not an annex of NDC and so they can not bring their supporters to pose as PNC members in their congress to do their bidding for them,” the statement said.

Expressing the PNC’s displeasure over the incident, the statement recalled how the unfortunate action of the NDC coincided with how the NDC overthrew the PNC’s party from government on December 31,1981.

“The NDC overthrew the founder of our party’s government, Dr Hila Liman in December 1981 a legitimately elected government and today being in another December they have continued their treacherous actions against its General Secretary,” the statement contained.

Owing to this background, the PNC says it has “resolved to boycott all programs that will be organised by the National Democratic Congress.

“Meanwhile our legal team are preparing an appropriate action to be taken for the uncouth behavior that was exhibited by NDC officials against the PNC and the person of the General Secretary, Madam Janet Nabla.”

The PNC questioned the locus NDC who “wants the people of Ghana to handover the mantle of governance to them come 2024” and asked wether Ghanaians would be “safe under this NDC.”
