At least five persons are reported to have died in clashes in the Nkwanta South District of the Oti Region, Angelonline.com.gh has learnt.
The clashes, the which are said to have started in the last couple of weeks, are linked with the celebration of the annual Yam Festival of the people in the area.
Details are scanty but worried residents who called into the Angel Morning Show live on Angel TV and Angel 102.9 FM in Accra, said the tensions are so high, thereby creating insecurity and hampering the movements of the people.
Leading political figures there including the Oti Regional Minister, Joshua Makambu; Member of Parliament, Geoffrey Kini and District Chief Executive, Bright Lenwa, have all declined comments when Angelonline.com.gh reached them on the issue.
The Regional Security Council (RECSEC) convened a meeting which went very late into Monday night over the situation.
The Council is expected to meet again Tuesday to find ways to halt the conflict and the further loss of lives and properties.
