The Ashanti Regional Chairman for the Collation of Concerned Teachers Ghana, Kingsley Anyimadu, has issued a stern warning to the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Anyimadu cautioned that any attempts to intimidate the teachers amidst their ongoing strike would be met with appropriate responses.
The warning comes in response to directives from the Ghana Education Service instructing heads of kindergartens, primary schools, junior, and senior high schools to ensure the opening of schools and guarantee the safety of students, despite the ongoing strike by the three teacher unions. Additionally, all Regional and District Directors have been tasked with ensuring strict adherence to these directives.
Expressing concern over these directives, Anyimadu highlighted the perceived threat posed by the actions of Regional and District Directors. He criticized the instruction for potentially leading to the intimidation of striking teachers, particularly through the conduct of roll calls in schools.
In his statement, Anyimadu stated, “Let me use this platform to appeal to Regional and District Directors of Education who may exploit these directives to victimize some of our members. While GES has instructed the continuation of school operations in our absence, we have no qualms with that. However, any attempts by directors and human resource personnel to conduct roll calls in order to intimidate us will not be delt with.”
