The 1985/87 Year Group of Prempeh College Old Students Association, also known as Amanfoo 1985/87, has expressed their heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, affectionately known as NAPO, on his appointment as the Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a statement filled with pride and joy, the group remarked, “It brings us great joy to see one of our classmates rise to become a Vice Presidential candidate in Ghana on the ticket of the NPP. We are pleased to add our support to congratulate our brother and mate, Senior Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and to wish him well in every endeavor.”
NAPO’s journey with Prempeh College began in September 1980, when he entered Form 1, and continued through to the completion of Form 5 in 1985 and Sixth Form in 1987. He was a proud member of Guggisberg House. The group’s admiration for NAPO is evident in their reflection on his contributions, noting, “Senior Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s commitment to the course of Prempeh College and the Old Students fraternity (Amanfoo) is enormous and exemplary, which culminated in the christening of a new house in the year 2023 after him – ‘Matthew Opoku Prempeh House’.”
Highlighting his distinguished career, the group recalled his political journey: “NAPO has risen politically as a Member of Parliament for Manhyia constituency from 2009 to 2012, a Member of Parliament for Manhyia South constituency from 2013 to date, a Minister for Education from 2017 to 2020, and a Minister for Energy from 2021 to date. It is therefore not surprising that he has been appointed as running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the 2024 general election. He has indeed made Prempeh College, our mates, and all Amanfoo proud.”
They also lauded his academic and professional achievements, stating, “As a product of Prempeh College, his intellect, leadership, commitment to duty, and dedication to his work have earned him respect and recognition, including honorary doctorate degrees from various institutions locally and internationally.”
With unwavering confidence, the group concluded, “We have absolute trust in NAPO’s ability to deliver as the running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and achieve his goal of becoming the next Vice President of the Republic of Ghana. The Class of 1985/87 of the Prempeh College Old Students Association congratulates you, NAPO, and prays for God’s guidance and protection in your political journey.”
