Personal Assistant to Alan Kyerematen, Nana Yaw Sarpong, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to demand an apology from its prominent member, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, over derogatory remarks made about founder and leader of the Movement for Change – Alan Kyerematen.
Mr. Sarpong insists that Jumah, who serves as the Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, must issue an unqualified apology to Mr. Kyerematen, following offensive comments during a recent interview.
In a discussion on Kumasi-based Angel FM, Jumah criticized Kyerematen, who recently left the NPP to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 presidential election and added that the presidential hopeful must seek therapy.
Among other remarks, Jumah stated that Akua Donkor, founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), “makes more sense” than Alan Kyerematen when they speak.
“I have mentioned this previously, despite potential disapproval, but I will reiterate. If you defect from the NPP and lose your rationality, you switch to the NDC. If you become enlightened in the NDC, you will join the NPP,” he stated.
He added, “Alan should consider seeking therapy. If he recovers his consciousness, he will return.”
Jumah’s comments sparked widespread criticism on social media, where many users condemned him for making such disparaging remarks on a live broadcast.
In response, an outraged Nana Yaw Sarpong voiced his disapproval on the Angel Morning Show on Thursday, October 17, 2024, urging the NPP and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to intervene.
Sarpong called on the NPP to demand that Jumah retract his statement and offer a public apology to Kyerematen.
“I am calling on President Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP to bring Maxwell Kofi Jumah to order, directing him to retract his comments and apologize to Alan Kyerematen,” Sarpong stated in an interview with Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah.
Sarpong further noted, “Kofi Jumah is not a kid in the NPP, and allowing him to make such statements only highlights how desperate the party has become.”
He emphasized that Alan Kyerematen has always maintained a disciplined and respectful approach throughout his political career, never resorting to personal attacks or insults.
“Have you ever heard Alan insult or attack anyone in his political career?” Sarpong asked, praising Kyerematen’s integrity and moral stance.
Sarpong concluded by asserting that Kyerematen, a former Minister of Trade and Industry, would not engage in “cheap politics,” as he values his integrity and humility over political gains.
According to Sarpong, the NPP’s inability to provoke Kyerematen into retaliating is causing the party significant discomfort and nightmare.
