The Ghana Police Service in collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service, has launched an investigation into a fire outbreak that occurred at the Kwashieman Cluster of Schools.
The facility, used to store materials of the Electoral Commission for the Ablekuma North Constituency following the 2024 elections catches fire in the early hours of Tuesday, December 17.
In a statement, the police assured the public that perpetrators found responsible for the incident would face swift arrest and prosecution.
“We wish to assure the public that any individual or group of individuals found responsible for this incident will be arrested and brought to face justice,” the statement read.
The statement further entreated Ghanaians to remain calm as investigations into the cause of the fire continues.
According to the police, 132 suspects arrested in connection with these disturbances. Out of the total number, 45 suspects have been remanded into custody, 71 are currently on police enquiry bail, and 16 have been granted court bail as they await further legal proceedings.
This comes amid heightened tensions following post-election disturbances across the country.
