John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been sworn in as Ghana’s sixth President of the Fourth Republic, officially taking over the reins of government.

The swearing-in ceremony, conducted by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo, took place on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra.

President Mahama’s inauguration followed the historic swearing-in of Ghana’s first female Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who took the oath of office earlier today.

This marks Mahama’s return to the presidency after previously serving as Ghana’s fourth President from January 7, 2013, to January 6, 2017.

His return to power is unprecedented, making him the first president under the Fourth Republic to lose an election and reclaim the seat after contesting two subsequent elections, securing a decisive victory.

Born in Damongo in the Savannah Region 66 years ago, Mahama is the son of Mr. E. A. Mahama and Madam Abiba Nnaba.

His political career spans decades, with service at various levels including Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi, Deputy Minister and Minister for Communications, Vice President, and President of the Republic of Ghana.
