The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North Constituency in the Eastern Region, Sammi Awuku, has expressed disappointment in the John Mahama-led administration, accusing the statesman of portraying the opposite of his campaign promises.
Mr. Awuku postulated that the President is being deceitful to the very Ghanaians who voted him into power while seeking the Presidency in the 2024 general elections.
In light of this, the MP has asserted that Ghanaians will soon conclude that voting out the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was the biggest mistake ever made.
“With time, Ghanaians will realize we traded our color TV for black-and-white TV,” he said, projecting the NPP as a colored TV and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as black and white.
The Akuapem North MP and immediate past Director of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) made this statement at the Presbyterian College of Education, Akropong on Saturday, March 22, 2025, during the induction of the newly elected executive of NPP’s Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON).
His remarks were in connection with what he described as deceitful actions by President Mahama regarding his declaration on sole-sourcing in his maiden State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament.
According to Mr. Awuku, the President mentioned that the government intended to minimize sole-source procurement in the road sector to encourage competitive bidding and enhance public transparency in procurement processes.
He, however, indicated that on March 17, Mr. Mahama undertook his first sole-sourcing procurement at the Mineral Income Investment Fund (MIIF).
Addressing the TESCON members, Sammi Awuku challenged them to be hardworking by propagating the track record of the NPP to their colleagues on campuses and in communities to enable them to regroup and recapture power in 2028.
“But that requires hard work, diligence, and education on our side,” he added.
In his address, the Eastern Regional Youth Organizer of the NPP, Adamu Musah Raha, bemoaned the recent residency raids on former appointees under the previous government.
He declared that the opposition party would not allow NDC members to unlawfully intimidate any of Akufo-Addo’s appointees.
“If they think former appointees have done something wrong, they should use the proper channels to invite and investigate them rather than using the Rambo-style approach to raid their residence. We will resist the oppressor’s rule because we are not afraid of anybody in the country,” Mr. Adamu stated.
