Former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Ade Coker, has praised President John Dramani Mahama for fulfilling his commitments to abolish the E-Levy and Lottery tax in Ghana.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on March 27, 2025, Ade Coker asserted that the president and the NDC’s decision to eliminate the E-Levy is a clear indication of their readiness to reset the nation’s economic trajectory.

He urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to recognize the president’s efforts and the NDC’s initiatives aimed at stabilizing the economy, advising them to refrain from criticizing his administration for these progressive actions.

According to Ade Coker, the removal of the E-Levy was a pivotal component of their 2024 campaign manifesto. He emphasised that the E-Levy does not contribute positively to Ghana’s advancement.

“You have eight years to remove import levy, but you (NPP) did not do it, now we’re doing our own thing too you’re feeling the pain of it, we’ve removed our E-Levy, lottery taxes, the lottery tax contains a lot, we’ve removed all, emissions tax, 1.5 percent tax withholding tax on small-scale mining and still say we haven’t done anything,” he stated.

Mr. Ade Coker further noted that the NPP had the opportunity to eliminate the import levy from the system but failed to take action. He concluded that they should not undermine the current administration’s efforts.
