Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has sworn in a seven-member executive team of the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC) for a three-year term.
The new executives are Simon Agianab (Dean), Stephen Odoi-Larbi (Vice Dean), Kwaku Sakyi-Danso (General Secretary), Ibrahim Alhassan (Organizing Secretary), Francis Ekow Annan (Deputy Secretary), Deborah Dzivenu (Treasurer), and Emmanuel Kwaku Ansah (Ex-Officio Member).
Addressing the ceremony, the Speaker emphasized the vital role of the PPC in keeping the public informed about parliamentary affairs. He likened their work to that of MPs, who serve as the voice of their constituents.
Dean of the PPC, Simon Agianab, expressed gratitude to the Speaker for his support and highlighted the high turnover of journalists in Parliament, which affects consistent reporting on legislative activities. He stressed the need for continuous capacity-building to ensure accurate and effective parliamentary reporting.
Deputy Director of Media Relations, Dr. Lawrence Kwarteng-Ashia, urged journalists to uphold ethical standards, emphasizing the constitutional provisions for press freedom and responsibility.
MPs, Eric Nana Agyeman Prempeh (Ahafo Ano North) and Abednego Bandin (Bunkpurugu) echoed the Speaker’s call for professionalism, urging journalists to report without fear or bias.
