The Government of Ghana has announced the immediate evacuation of all Ghanaian nationals residing in Iran, as tensions between Iran and Israel continue to escalate.
The directive, issued under the leadership of President John Mahama’s administration, is part of an urgent measure aimed at protecting the lives of Ghanaians in the conflict zone.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana’s Embassy in Tehran has been closed indefinitely, citing safety concerns for its diplomatic staff.
The evacuation is being coordinated via land borders and covers a broad spectrum of Ghanaian nationals, including embassy personnel, students, professionals, and other citizens currently based in Iran.
The Ministry emphasized that it is closely monitoring developments in Israel as well and could take further action depending on how the situation unfolds.
In the interim, operations at the Ghanaian Embassy in Tel Aviv have been scaled down to the barest minimum, with consular staff instructed to remain in close communication with Ghanaians living in the area.
In a show of commitment to citizen safety, the Ghanaian government assured the public that no effort would be spared in safeguarding its citizens abroad.
It reiterated Ghana’s long-standing stance on diplomacy, urging both Israel and Iran to pursue peaceful dialogue and an immediate end to hostilities.
“Government assures that no effort would be spared in protecting Ghanaian lives and keeping all Ghanaians out of harm’s way,” the statement said further.
This move comes amid growing international concern about the worsening conflict in the Middle East, which has prompted several nations to begin repatriating their citizens.
