Footballer Justice Blay has issued a public apology to his former club, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, following remarks he made during a live interview on Friday, July 11, 2025, on Kumasi-based Pure FM.
His apology came after he made several controversial revelations about the personal habits of some of his former teammates during his time at the club.
Blay stated that contrary to public perception, he was not the only player at the club who consumed alcohol or engaged in such behaviours. He claimed that goalkeeper Camara Mohammed and midfielder Joseph Ablor were Shisha smokers.
Among his startling admissions was an allegation that Camara and forward Kwame Opoku had been romantically involved with his girlfriend and Sugar Mummy respectively, an issue he said had initially created tension among them.
A few hours after the interview, the midfielder released a statement in which he apologised to Asante Kotoko and took full responsibility for his comments, admitting that emotions had influenced his actions.
“I recognise that my words may have caused disappointment or offense to the club, my former teammates, the passionate supporters, and specific individuals whose names were mentioned.
“It was never my intention to bring the name of this great club into disrepute or to diminish the contributions of those I’ve had the honour of working alongside,” he acknowledged.
Reflecting on the controversy, Blay described the experience as a lesson in personal development, saying “This experience has served as a powerful reminder of the values of emotional discipline, humility, and maturity—on and off the pitch.”
“I am committed to learning from this and becoming not only a better player but a better person.” Blay also expressed.
He reiterated his appreciation for his time at Asante Kotoko, describing the club as “a special place in my heart” and credited it with playing “an instrumental role in my growth and career as a professional footballer.”
“I extend my deepest apologies to the Asante Kotoko family and wish the club nothing but continued growth and success in all its future endeavours.”
