Six suspects have been arrested in connection with the ritual killing of 25-year-old mason, Nelson Anyena, in Mafi-Addidome, Volta Region.
The arrest, conducted by the Volta Regional Police Command, followed weeks of covert investigation and collaboration with the public.
The deceased had relocated to Mafi-Addidome from Wusuta in the South Dayi District to stay with his wife on December 4, 2024, the day he was killed.
On June 26, 2025, three suspects were initially apprehended: Augustina Fiawoyife, 21, unemployed, Wisdom Hedidor, 31, herbalist, Courage Bedzo alias Dzidefo, 31, Kente weaver.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of three more individuals: Gblor Noah alias Ekpedzi, 42, fetish priest, Yohannes Gblor, 27, security guard, John Gblor, 40, lotto writer.
According to preliminary findings, suspect Augustina, girlfriend of Wisdom lured Nelson to a secluded location under the guise of an intimate rendezvous. Nelson was then ambushed and strangled by Wisdom and Courage.
Later that night, the killers informed Noah, the fetish priest who had allegedly requested a corpse for ransom purposes. Noah arrived with his brothers, Yohannes and John, and paid GH¢7,000 to Wisdom and Courage before transferring the body to a shrine in Blorkope.
Following legal proceedings, an exhumation order was secured from Ho Magistrate Court One. On July 7, police investigators led by Volta Regional Crime Officer, Supt. Mr. Omari Mic Boakye, alongside environmental health officers from the Ho Municipality, retrieved Nelson’s remains buried beneath Noah’s shrine.
Shockingly, two additional bodies were also discovered at the site, suspected to be victims of similar ritual acts.
The remains of all three victims have been transported to the Police Hospital Mortuary in Accra for autopsy and DNA profiling.
The suspects are currently on remand in both Police and Prison custody and are scheduled to reappear on August 8, 2025.
The Police in a statement expresses its gratitude to the public for their assistance in exposing this heinous crime.
Families and associates of the victims are urged to remain calm as the pursuit of justice progresses.
