The John Dramani Mahama administration has pledged to treat military brutalities against civilians as crimes, ensuring that offenders face appropriate sanctions, Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah announced.
Stressing Mr. Mahama’s commitment to leading a transparent and fair government, the minister said no offender would be shielded, regardless of their rank or political affiliation.
“Ashanti Region military brutalities and other brutalities. Take it from me and take it from the Mahama administration, we will always treat crime as crime; we will not shield anyone,” Dr. Omane Boamah said.
According to the minister, “There’s a report that has come out of the investigations that took place there. The outcome of the investigation is clear. Do I want to speak to it at this stage? No. However, subsequent action will let everyone know the impact of that particular investigation is.”
Dr. Boamah’s assurance comes amid growing concerns over the conduct of some members of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The minister made the remarks on Monday, July 21, 2025, during his presentation on his ministry’s activities over the past six months at the Government Accountability Series platform.
