The Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has congratulated Ghana’s senior women’s national football team, the Black Queens, for securing third place at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
In a post on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Vice President praised the team’s performance, describing it as a display of resilience, teamwork, and national pride.
“Congratulations, Black Queens, for securing the third place in the Women’s AFCON! You’ve shown incredible resilience, teamwork, and national pride throughout this tournament.
“Thank you for flying the flag high and for making Ghana proud. This is just the beginning. Onward and upward, Queens!” she wrote.
The Black Queens clinched the bronze medal after defeating South Africa in a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation time.
This became the second time in the tournament’s history Ghana merged with the bronze medalist in 2016.
