In a show of support for Ghana’s national women’s football team, the Minority in Parliament has donated GH¢100,000 to the Black Queens following their third-place finish at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The announcement was made today, July 29, 2025, by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, during a visit by the Black Queens’ entourage to Parliament.
“Mr. Speaker, on this occasion, it is clear that so far we have been hearing words of commendations but the actual fact of tangible cash support is yet to come.
“We are humble and proud to say that we are the first publicly to acknowledge the industry of the Black Queens by donating GH¢100,000 cash to the Black Queens,” Afenyo-Markin said.
He stressed the immediacy of the gesture, noting that they were making cash support and not promise.
“Mr. Speaker, we are not pledging a GHC100,000 but we are giving a cash support of GH¢100,000 now and the deputy majority leader being the senior woman among us has been handed the cash to meet the team outside and handover to them so that the media can capture.”
The donation marks one of the first public cash contributions made to the team following their impressive campaign at the continental tournament.
