Security and Fraud Consultant, Richard Kumadoe, has cautioned celebrities and the general public against interfering with investigative processes following the detention of dancehall artist Shatta Wale.
He stressed that individuals under investigation must allow due processes to run their course without attempting to dictate outcomes.
“I have said that when notice is served that you’re being investigated, you look for your lawyers and Public Relations to handle the matter, you do not dictate how the investigations should be done, but it seems he was determining how the investigations should be done. You see what has happened? So it should be a learning to many of the celebrities we have,” he said on Angel Morning Show, on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
His education is related to news that dancehall musician Shatta Wale had been detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following investigations surrounding his acquisition of a yellow Lamborghini.
The Security Analyst touched on the detention and underscored the importance of public behavior during investigations, expressing concerns about the manner the musician conducted himself after the EOCO invaded his residence to tow the vehicle in question.
“When you’re being investigated and notice has served wether publicly or privately, one you do not dictate to the investigation bodies, two, you do not put up an awkward behavior, three, you do not go out on social media and start ranting because as investigators ask primary questions you might not know why those questions and that do not mean that it is the only question to be asked.
“And if it is said that you’re being investigated in relation to a particular car, that does not mean the whole investigation will be centered on the car. It is investigators who decide at which point they escalate it or leave it the way it is.”
He advised that celebrities under probe should rely on their legal and public relations teams to manage communications with the public.
“The best you can do is look for your lawyers and PR to issue a quiet statement and stay back to begin cooperation with the investigators because, after all, you are a celebrity. So we need to understand exactly what we are doing and act accordingly,” Mr. Kumadoe added.
According to him, had the vociferous musician heeded advice, the matter would not have escalated this far.
“But because sometimes when you advise our brother through the media, he doesn’t listen. I was on TV3 when the issue came the first time, but he did not listen,” he noted, indicating that rather than going “on air” to do the “kind of things he did in the past.”
