Renowned Ghanaian backing vocalist Yvonne Ohene Gyan, popularly known as She or The Voice Behind the Stars, has shared revealing details about how her music journey began with the late highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.
Speaking on Angel Drive on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, Yvonne revealed that she was only 16 years old when she first became a backing vocalist for Lumba.
“I was 16 years when I started being the backing vocalist for Daddy Lumba. It wasn’t easy working with him because he was a very difficult person. As he teaches you what to say, he makes sure you do it exactly the way he wants especially the “Asieho” song,” she recounted.
She went on to reveal that immediately after recording Asieho with Lumba, she was called in to work on another major project.
“After we recorded the Asieho, the next day we recorded “Adi Dede” for Mzbel,” she explained.
According to her, she was working with Mzbel’s producer at the time, Mr. Danny, when the opportunity came up. She initially recorded the track as a demo, with the intention of re-recording it later. However, the demo version turned out to be so impressive that it was released as the final track.
“I recorded it as a demo at first so that I could later come back and sing the actual song. But Mr. Danny said he would use it like that, so what actually came out was the demo not the final version,” she added.
