The National Identification Authority (NIA) has commenced the registration of Ghanaian children aged six to fourteen years for the Ghana Card at all Premium Centres nationwide.
The Authority described the initiative as part of its mandate to ensure universal coverage of the national identity system, beginning from childhood, a statement signed by Mr. Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, Head of Corporate Affairs, announced.
The registration, which began this week, is currently available only at Premium Centres, where a fee of GH¢310 applies. The NIA clarified that this charge reflects the standard rate for services at these centres and does not constitute a new fee.
To complete the registration, parents or legal guardians must present the child’s Ghanaian passport or original birth certificate, alongside their own valid Ghana Card. The physical presence of either parent or guardian is also required to vouch for the child’s identity.
In a bid to streamline access, the NIA announced that effective Monday, September 15, 2025, its online booking system will be expanded to cover all eleven Premium Centres across the country. This will allow families to schedule appointments in advance via register.nia.gov.gh.
The Authority further indicated that registration services for children will be extended to District Offices in the coming weeks, aiming to reach families outside major urban centres.
