Deputy General Secretary of the United Party (UP), Nana Yaw Sarpong, believes that the country’s oil sector should have a clear policy direction to strengthen its productivity.
Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Thursday, November 6, 2025, he stated that the government needs to implement a proper consolidation policy, including a guidance development structure.
He stressed that these structures should be incorporated into school curricula to educate students about the sector.
Mr. Sarpong explained that this can help produce more experts to address future challenges within the industry.
“We need to introduce it in our curriculum to teach people so that we can get expert to guide us on any potential issue that may arise in the near future,” he recommended.
Mr. Sarpong made the call after his co-panelist on the show, the Member of Parliament for Tano South, Charles Asiedu raised concerns about the decline in oil production.
He described the oil sector as a sensitive area that requires proper policy guidance to effectively manage oil production and harness experts in the country.
Mr. Sarpong expressed optimism that, with the right policies in place, local companies in Ghana would be encouraged to invest in the sector, reducing the excessive involvement of foreign entities.
“It will get to a time companies in Ghana will come together and raise capital to inject in the sector leaving the foreigner behind,” he told Saddick Adams, host of the show.
