The leader of the Union Government and a businessman, Akwasi Addai Odike, has stated that stealing at workplaces has now become formal.
Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Monday, November 10, 2025, Odike argued that the current wage of Ghc 21, which is far below the required Ghc700 per month, is insufficient for workers to meet their basic needs, forcing many to resort to pilfering.
“With only 21 cedis, how can anyone rent a house or support a family unless they steal?”
Odike added that employing staff has become risky due to rampant theft, which jeopardises many jobs. “The riskiest thing to do now in Ghana is to employ someone at your workplace.
“Today, too many jobs are suffering because of thievery; someone steals from the company and builds a house unbeknownst to the boss of the company,” he said.
He noted that employees in higher positions also contribute to the problem, embezzling company funds despite receiving salaries, cars, houses, and other allowances.
“Even those who take the biggest envelope steal from the companies in addition; given all the cars, houses, and allowances, they still embezzle,” he added.
