President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the immediate suspension of the ongoing recruitment exercise into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The directive follows a tragic stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium that claimed six lives and left many others injured.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, when a large crowd of applicants reportedly forced their way through the stadium gates ahead of the scheduled screening time.
Speaking at the launch of the Nkoko Nkitinkiti Programme, President Mahama expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy and called for the recruitment exercise to be halted.
He also instructed the leadership of the GAF to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
The president emphasized the need for improved safety protocols and crowd management strategies to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
