Aide to Dr. Bawumia, Ellen Ama Daaku, has questioned why the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) didn’t consider using additional venues for the recruitment exercise before the tragic incident at El-Wak.
Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS), she wondered why GAF didn’t call off the exercise when they realized the place was choked by applicants, causing the loss of six female applicants’ lives due to a stampede.
“Why didn’t GAF open the additional eight venues previously for their recruitment exercise, and why didn’t they close the process when applicants exceeded capacity?” she queried on Monday, November 17, 2025.
Madam Daaku pointed out that there have been complaints about suffocation of some applicants during recruitment exercises at El-Wak Stadium in the past two years, questioning if GAF had taken any lessons from those incidents.
“Over 67 years Ghana since gained independence, are the military trying to tell us nothing has prompted them to update their recruitment process?” she said.
She added that government offering military slots to families of El-Wak stampede victims as compensation is unnecessary at the moment, but government should focus on addressing what caused the incident.
