The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has ceased operations of six University of Ghana learning centres due to a lack of accreditation.
The affected centres are located in Koforidua, Cape Coast, Tamale, Ho/Tsito, Wa, and Sunyani.
In a public notice, GTEC stated that the centres “have not been accredited and are not recognised by GTEC for employment, further education and promotion”.
The commission warned students, parents, and the public to verify accreditation status before seeking admission, noting that “enrolling in unaccredited institutions or learning centres poses serious risks, including potential loss of time, financial resources and future career opportunities”.
In a related development, the University announced the suspension of admissions to these centres in a statement until the accreditation issues are resolved.
“We have to go by the regulations of GTEC. They are the regulators, and we respect their position on every note,” said the statement signed by Professor Olivia Kwapong, Dean of Distance Education.
She reassured the public that the university is working towards meeting GTEC’s requirements and will resume operations once accredited.
