The Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, Baffour Awuah, says the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is clearly deviating from the purpose for which it was set up.
Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, December 3, Mr. Awuah criticized the OSP for not prioritizing cases highlighted by the Auditor-General, questioning its operational clarity and commitment to protecting the public purse.
Baffuor Awuah further expressed concerns about the effectiveness of the OSP, stating that it has lost sight of its central objective.
He emphasized that the OSP’s primary focus should be on investigating and prosecuting breaches of the Public Procurement Act, citing the Auditor-General’s reports as key evidence of corruption and procurement violations.
He noted that despite repeated recommendations from the Public Accounts Committee, the OSP has failed to prosecute procurement-related offenses, describing this as “deeply troubling.”
Mr. Awuah called for a comprehensive review of the OSP, urging the government and stakeholders to intervene and strengthen the office to ensure it effectively fulfills its role.
