The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations (NAIMOS) Taskforce have arrested two Chinese nationals for engaging in illegal mining activities along the Subri River at Bekwai Subrisu in the Western Region.
The arrests were made on Monday, December 8, 2025, at about 10:30 a.m. during raids on illegal mining sites at Subrisu.
In a statement, issued on Tuesday, December 9, NAIMOS said, the suspects were caught actively mining with two excavators and other equipment along the river.
According to NAIMOS, the activities of the two galamseyers and their accomplices had severely polluted the Subri River and other water bodies in the area, leaving several portions of land badly degraded.
During the operation, the taskforce dismantled several metallic gold-trapping platforms and destroyed three heavy-duty water pumping machines to incapacitate the illegal miners.
The two suspects have since been conveyed to Accra and handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) for necessary action.
Meanwhile, NAIMOS has assured the public that its surprise nationwide crackdown on illegal mining activities will continue as part of efforts to restore sanity in the country’s mining sector.
