President John Dramani Mahama has weighed in on the Wesley Girls’ Senior High School religious freedom Saga, saying he sees no justification for the growing public controversy surrounding the matter.
He maintains that there is no need for dispute requiring national attention since the school agreed to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) accepting diversity in religious practice.
“If the faith-based based has agreed in their own MoU, I don’t see any point of dispute, if they all accept that. If there its a mission school with its own orientation but within it faith-based organization, there must be recognition of diversity,” he highlighted.
Mr. Mahama said this during a courtesy call on him by the National Peace Council at the Presidency,
President Mahama further acknowledged the MoU also allows Mission Schools to uphold its faith orientation, adding that “I think it’s something we can be proud of that understanding between the Peace Council and the faith-based institution.”
