An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail to a 24-year-0ld trader, Ayishatu Zakaria, in the sum of GHC 30,000 with two sureties after she pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing harm.
Narrating the facts of the case to the court, Detective Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagye told the court that the complainant, Musah Umar Asaapong, is a trader and lives at Maamobi, as well as the accused, Ayishatu Zakari.
The victim, whose name has been withheld, is 7 years old and a pupil at Guidance International School.
In the year 2023 after the demise of the aunt of the victim with whom she lived, she went to stay with the accused person.
The accused had accused the victim of bedwetting ever since the victim went to stay with her. On 23/10/2025, accused put a stone in fire, removed it with a spoon and put it in between the thighs of victim.
After the act, the accused person bathed victim and she left for school.
Chief Inspector Aniagyei said it was during break time, a friend sat of the victims lap whilst they were playing which made her started crying and fell.
Her friend saw the burns and immediately went to report to their teacher who also informed the head teacher.
The head teacher invited the accused person but she failed to turn up. Victim’s friend informed her father who later came to the Nima Divisional DOVVSU to report the case.
Subsequently, a medical report form was issued to him to send the victim to hospital for examination and treatment. Accused was arrested and in her cautioned statement, she admitted to the offence.
The trial judge granted her bail in the sum of GHC 30,000 with two sureties after the prosecutor told the court presided over by Justice Obiri Yeboah that the little victim have had two surgeries which the mother is finding it very difficult to settle the bills.
The court adjourned the case to January 16.
