The Ashanti Regional Police Command has rolled out an extensive security initiative ahead of the Christmas and New Year period, assigning over 1,000 officers across the region to safeguard public order.
At a media briefing held at the Regional Headquarters, Regional Police Commander DCOP Osei Akoto Arthur explained that the heightened presence of personnel is intended to discourage criminal activity, ease traffic congestion during the holidays, and guarantee rapid intervention in emergencies.
“We are on the ground to ensure the free flow of vehicles and to deter criminals who often exploit crowded markets and festive gatherings. Our presence is meant to reassure residents and visitors that we are ready to act.”
The commander further shared safety guidelines, advising the public to steer clear of dimly lit or secluded areas at night and to stay vigilant in busy shopping districts.
He stressed that community cooperation is vital to the success of the operation.
“We urge all Ghanaians to take these precautions seriously. By working together, we can make this festive season peaceful for everyone,” he added.
The Command indicated that officers will maintain visibility at malls, transport hubs, and large public gatherings.
As part of the measures, he indicated extra patrols have also been dispatched to vulnerable communities, with temporary checkpoints mounted to intercept illegal weapons, stolen goods, and suspicious movements.
It will include carrying out random checks and interact with residents to collect intelligence and address concerns.
DCOP Arthur added reminded citizens that “Your vigilance helps us act faster and prevents crime before it happens.”
