President H.E. John Dramani Mahama has confirmed Wisdom Kwaku Deku, popularly known as Yayra Koku, as the new Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA).
The confirmation follows the recommendation of the Authority’s Governing Board and consultation with the Public Services Commission, in line with constitutional procedures.
The NIA is responsible for managing Ghana’s national identity registration and issuing the Ghana Card, a key document for accessing public services and supporting national security and digital governance.

Mr. Deku brings extensive experience to the role. He first joined the NIA in 2008 as a temporary technical officer, contributing to IT and identity registration processes. This early exposure gave him hands-on understanding of the operational and technical challenges of building a national identification system.
He also holds academic qualifications in information technology and related disciplines. He has undergone professional and executive training in public administration, systems management, and leadership, both locally and internationally, giving him a strong foundation for institutional management and policy implementation.
As Executive Secretary, Yayra Koku now assumes responsibility for steering the NIA at a critical time, as national identification continues to play a central role in governance, planning, and Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
