The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has directed the immediate halt of construction works on a new structure being erected at the overpass close to the East Legon Police Station.
The directive follows an unscheduled site inspection conducted on Monday, February 9, 2026, by the Minister and her technical team.
The inspection, she explained, revealed that the ongoing project, though reportedly backed by a permit, posed serious concerns regarding public safety, right-of-way, and potential obstruction to vital infrastructure.
Invoking her authority, the Minister issued the following directives: cessation of works, removal of materials, and permit re-evaluation.
She emphasized that the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council remains committed to ensuring that development in the capital adheres strictly to spatial regulations and urban planning standards.
“We will not tolerate developments that compromise public safety or bypass the rigorous standards required for urban expansion.
“The sanctity of our public spaces must be preserved, and we expect full cooperation from all stakeholders as we enforce these necessary measures,” the Minister said in a statement posted on her official social media handles.
