Leader of the Union Government (UG), Akwasi Addai Odike, has stated that while Ghana appears to practice democracy, it is fake.
In an interview with Saddick Adams on Monday, February 9, 2026, the businessman expressed that true democracy in Ghana is compromised because it doesn’t empower all citizens to participate in the governance of the country.
“Democracy in Ghana does not provide everyone with the opportunity to contribute their input into the governance of the country,” he noted.
He emphasized that the rules and regulations governing the country, the 1992 Constitution, and the overall governance model and architecture are all fake.
“We act as if we are practicing democracy, but we are nowhere near the true characteristics of democracy. We are projecting an image to the world that we are democratic, but it is fake,” he remarked.
He added that the current mode of governance is detrimental to the country’s progress, causing it to regress and hindering its development.
