The Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency have expressed grave concern over irregularities in the party’s membership registration and preparations for polling station elections.
In a statement, the elders cited instances of non-compliance with national guidelines, including lack of transparency in registration timelines and venues, and refusal by some coordinators to release official membership registers.
“The Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tarkwa–Nsuaem Constituency wish to express grave concern about disturbing developments surrounding the ongoing party membership registration and preparations toward the election of polling station executives.
“For decades, many of us have sacrificed our time, resources and energy to build the NPP in Tarkwa–Nsuaem into one of the party’s strongholds; It is therefore deeply troubling to witness the steady decline of the party in the constituency,” the statement read.
The statement also took issue with former MP George Mireku Duker’s alleged comments suggesting individuals could register at party offices instead of polling stations, and that polling station executives could be selected rather than elected.
The elders have called on national party leadership to intervene and ensure adherence to guidelines, warning that the party’s integrity and future in Tarkwa-Nsuaem are at stake.
