The Ga Traditional Council, in collaboration with the Ga Paramount Stool and the Office of the Ga Mantse, has announced a one-month ban on drumming and noise-making.
The directive, which takes effect from Monday, May 4 to Thursday, June 4, 2026, prohibits the use of musical instruments, loudspeakers, and other forms of noise during the long month period.
“The observance marks a sacred period within the Ga tradition, and all residents, churches, pubs, event organizers, and the general public are encouraged to take note and adhere strictly to the directive,” the Council announced in a statement posted on its official Facebook page.
According to the Council, it forms part of the customary rites leading to the Homowo Festival, a sacred period designed to foster peace, and spiritual reflection among the Ga people.
The Council also urged residents, institutions, religious bodies, and businesses to comply fully, noting that the ban is enshrined under Ghana’s customary law and cultural traditions.
