President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that a befitting state funeral will be held in honor of the eight individuals who perished in the military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

Mr. Mahama noted that the government has set August 15 for the event which will take place at the Black Star Square.

The interdenominational ceremony forms part of a broader week-long national mourning initiative dedicated to commemorating the lives of the deceased ministers, government officials, and military personnel.

“On Friday the 15th August an interdenominational state funeral will be held for the 8 heroes at the Black Stars Square,” the President said on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

As outlined by the President, the remembrance activities will commence with a public gathering titled “Evening of Reflections and Memorial” on Saturday, August 9, at 5:00 p.m. at the forecourt of the State House.

“On Saturday night August at 5:00 PM the nation will gather at the Forecourt of the State House for an evening of reflection and memorial in honor of our departed colleagues.”

In addition, President Mahama announced that books of condolences will be made available from Sunday, August 10, through Thursday, August 14, at designated institutions across the capital.
