Five persons have been arrested for impersonating National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) officials.
The suspects, Moses Tapiam (43 years), Christopher Amakor (29 years), Casimir Nunekpeku (29 years), Wisdom Miwonuko (35 years) and Paul Agbanu (53 years), were caught wearing security uniforms and claiming to be NAIMOS operatives from Accra.
According to a release signed by DSP David Fianko Okyere of the Public Affairs Unit (Eastern South Region), the men were reported moving between mining sites in Akwadum, Abuakwa South, extorting money from miners.
They were apprehended in Akwadum while traveling in a Mitsubishi 4×4 pick‑up with registration number GS 536‑25 and handed over to the Eastern South Regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Kibi for investigation.
The police warned residents that impersonating security officers is an offence and urged anyone engaging in such acts to stop.
The statement assured that individuals posing as security officials will be arrested and prosecuted.
The five suspects are in police custody, assisting with investigations and will be arraigned in due course.
