This year’s harmattan season will begin on Friday December 3, 2021 a statement issued by the Ghana Meteorological Agency has announced.

According to the statement signed by the agency’s Head of Central Analysis and Forest Office, Bashiru Yahaya, the atmosphere is expected to be dry and hazy to intensify the harmattan.

Moreover, it noted that in spite of the expectation, the northern sector will experience the weather condition more intensely.

In this regard, the North-Eastern part of the country is expected to be affected on Saturday December 4, 2021 whereas most part of the Northern sector are forecast to also experience some dry and hazy conditions on Monday December 6, 2021.

Part of the statement however revealed that some areas in the Northern sector have already begun experiencing the harmattan despite its mildness as a result of low concentration of dust in the atmosphere.

That notwithstanding, the Meteorological agency warned that there is the likelihood that the entire country will be hit with high concentration of dust in the atmosphere since the source region is already experiencing the high level of dust.

Meanwhile, Bawku, Navrongo, Tamale, Yendi, Bole and Wa zones will also be affected but mildly between 20° and 70°.

In other jurisdiction such as Keta Krachi, Kpando, Sampa and Techiman, the expected humidity is projected between 50°- 80°.

The Ghana Meteorological Agency used the opportunity to advise Ghanaians to be cautious on how to handle fire to avoid any fire outbreak.

It again urged the general public to keep hydrated by taking in lots of fluids as well as covering foods to prevent dust from settling on them.
