Family of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Osei Afriyie popularly known as Sirr John, has denied reports claiming he died of COVID-19 related ailment.

The former General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) died late Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at the intensive care unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where he was receiving treatment after reportedly contracting the novel coronavirus.

However, family spokesperson, Kwadwo Owusu, in an interview with Kumasi-based Pure FM said, the family is yet to receive the report of an inquest into his death.

“For now we can’t confirm whether our brother died of COVID-19 or not. We know Sir John was fit and strong and he was not sick before he was pronounced dead yesterday. We are patiently waiting for autopsy report,” Kwadwo Owusu said.

He, however, said the family won’t be surprised if it turns out that Sir John was killed by COVID-19 because his good nature always attracted people to him.
