Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has voted at the Karaga D/A Primary School Polling Centre in the North East Region of Ghana.
Addressing the media after the exercise, the veep said that he went through all the COVID-19 protocols very smoothly in order to cast his vote.
“It [voting] is the biggest constitutional responsibility that we have and as you can see, I have cast my vote and everybody should be patient and carry out this most important constitutional duty. We want to vote very peacefully”, Dr. Bawumia told the press.
He used the opportunity to appeal to all eligible voters to come out in their numbers to exercise their franchise devoid of disruptions and violence.
“We want to wish the Electoral Commission well; we want to wish all Ghanaians well…let’s come out and vote regardless of your party and do it peacefully and then when you are done you go home. We should make our nation proud.”
Touting Ghana as the most peaceful country in the West African Sub-region, he stressed that Ghanaians must work hard to maintain the Ghan’s reputation as a peaceful country at the end of the elections.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo is reported to have also voted in the Kyebi Constituency, where he hails from.
According to the Electoral Commission it expects a total of 17,027,641 voters to participate in the presidential and parliamentary elections today.
The nationwide exercise began at 7am at most of the polling stations and is expected to end at 5pm.
