A 75-year-old man, Kofi Abasa, met his untimely death at Nyanyano, near Kasoa in the Central Region when a stray bullet fired during the installation of a chief at Gomoa Nyanyano in the Central Region.
The Septuagenarian, according to the Nyanyano Police died after being rushed to Kasoa health post for treatment.
Police medical form was given to the complaint in the company of police but was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The police received a distress call that, some group of persons from the Nyanyano Royal family had gathered and were performing some rights towards the installation of a chief.
This caused the police to proceed to the scene and met about 40 young men fighting among themselves.
Information gathered at the scene was that Gomoa Nyanyano has three gates from which the chieftaincy rotates. That after the death of the late Chief, there has been misunderstanding over the 3 gates for selecting his successor.
Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police service, Sgt Isaac Evans Ettie said residents explained that the crowd started building up forcing the Police to call for re- enforcement so they could bring the situation under control.
He said the body of Kofi Abasa was conveyed to the police mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
He said no arrest has been made yet. The situation has been brought under control.
The Police has intensified patrols in the area. Investigation is still ongoing.
