Police and National Security Intelligence Operatives, in collaboration with the National Communication Authority (NCA), have arrested popular priestess, Patience Asiedua in Kasoa in the Central Region.
Popularly known as ‘Nana Agradaa’, the priestess, is said to be illegally operating two television stations, Thunder TV and Ice1 TV.
According to the Minister for Communication and Digitalization, Ursual Owusu-Ekuful, the arrest was made at about “2200hrs on April 20, 2021” on grounds that the operators were “illegally transmitting without licenses.”
Among the offenders is owner of Thunder TV, Patience Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa who “advertises her ‘Sika Gari’ on the TV station, which she claims is her personal god that multiplies money with some rituals she makes. She has hence admitted to this illegality and is currently in custody assisting with further investigations,” madam Ursula noted.
She added that two equipments each, used in the transmission from both stations were seized by the team.
Alluding to media regulation, the minister said: “The influx of unregulated television stations on air have led to promotion of certain content which may affect public order, public morality and the rights and reputation of others. As such, efforts are underway to rid the system of this canker and reduce overcrowding on Ghana’s air waves.”
Speaking of media contents and efforts put in to ensure sanity prevails in the system, the National Films Authority, under the Development and Classification Act 935, issued a statement indicating that from May 1, 2021, all audiovisual contents would be examined by the authority before they are exhibited for public consumption.
