The National Communication Authority (NCA) has approved the release of a total 133 FM Radio Broadcasting Authorizations to stations that were closed down during the 2017 FM audit.
The stations include pro-NDC radio stations, Radio Gold and Radio XYZ.
The NCA stated in a communique dated October 12, 2021 that the approval is subject to applicants attending a sensitisation workshop on terms and conditions of the Broadcasting Authorization.
The goal of the workshop, according to the Authority, includes clarifying the “legal, regulatory and technical requirements for the establishment and operation of an Fm Radio Broadcasting station.”
After the workshop, successful applicants shall be issued provisional broadcasting authorizations whilst frequencies shall be assigned to only applicants that fulfill the conditions of the provisional authorisation.
Meanwhile, the general public are reminded that per section 2(4) of the Electoral Commission Act 2008 (Act 755) a person shall not have the right to operate a broadcasting system or provide a broadcasting service without a frequency authorisation from the authority.
