It was a moment of rejoicing for victims of tidal wave destruction in the Volta Region when former President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, donated some relief items to them on Saturday November 13, 2021.
The victims numbering about 1,027 were displaced on the dawn of Sunday November 7, 2021 when about 500 homes were destroyed by the waves.
They were residents of communities including Abutiakope, Kedzikope, Keta Central, Tsalakope, Agavedzi, Amuchinu and Adina among others, which were all reported to have been hard hit.
According to the Municipal Chief Executive some of the victims had to be lodged in school compounds and churches while many spent their nights in the open until National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) distributed some relief items to them on Wednesday November 10, 2021.
However, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) 2020 Presidential Candidate, on Saturday November 13, 2021 paid a visit to some of the affected communities and doled out items including 2,000 bags of rice, 2,000 student mattresses, 1,000 cans of tomato paste, and 1,000 gallons of cooking oil to the victims.
Mr. Mahama also inspected the extent of damage caused by the tidal waves at Anyanui.
He was accompanied by a former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Volta Regional Chairman of the NDC Henry Ametefe, Deputy Chairman of the Volta Region MPs Caucus Kobby Woyome, the MPs for Ketu South, Keta and Anlo.
